Originally from Puhoi, a small village north of Auckland, Mary relocated to Dunedin in2021 to studt ceramics at the Dunedin School of Art.
Her work is predominately scultural pieces which feature a thick layer of glaze and are oftern fired multiple times. The glazes interact with each other merging and separating to create interesting and unexpected swirls, crackles and drips.
In her studio this year she has been exploring the symbolisim of flowers and their association with both life, death and renewal.
Mary was a finalist in The Portage Ceramic Awards 2023, The Quarry Ceramic Awards 2023 and the ILT Murihiku Art Awards 2024.
She is currently working towards her assessment exhibition which opens in PeaSea Art in Port Chalmers on 15 November.
